• FANTASYS' PLEASANT SURPRISES

Third year wide receivers Sidney Rice and Mike Sims-Walker have burst onto the 2009 fantasy scene. More proof that wide receivers are prone to blow up in their third year.

Sidney Rice’s production was hampered in his first two seasons. Credit that to Tavarius Jackson’s inability to play the quarterback position. In 2007 and 2008 combined Rice compiled 46 catches for 537 yards and 8 TDs. Bringing in Hall Of Fame QB Brett Favre has changed that. Through nine games Rice has compiled 44 receptions for 786 yards and 2 TDs. His average fantasy draft position was in the 14th round. Chaz Schilens, Troy Williamson, Darrius Heyward-Bey, and Isaac Bruce were all drafted before him. There is a lesson to be learned here. Search for sleepers like Rice when their team undergoes a major improvement in the off-season such as this one.

Unless there was a die hard Jacksonville Jaguars fan in your league, Mike Sims-Walker went undrafted. Remember him being labeled a deep sleeper pick at the beginning of the season? Consider him a sleeper no more, 39 catches for 603 yards and 5 TDs is very credible. He has decisively lived up to his potential in claiming the #1 receiver billing in Jacksonsville.
